This is my first post relating to Honeymoons and im choosing to start with somewhere that is very special to me as I got engaged there and that’s Mexico.

I have been to this beautiful country twice and I absolutely love it!  It is gorgeous.  The focus of todays post will be the area of Playa Del Carmen which is a fab spot about 45 minutes from Cancun.

Playa Del Carmen isn’t as built up as Cancun which is one of my favourite things about it, although it is a very busy area with lots of shops and bars.  The beach front is amazing all round the Playa area, gorgeous white sands extending into the ultra blue Caribbean sea.

There are various hotels located right in Playa Del Carmen which are great for anyone wanting to be close to all the shops and nightlife that has Playa has to offer.  However if you are looking to be slightly away from the hustle and bustle then I highly recommend staying in the gated tourist area of Playacar.  This area is mainly hotels as well as Luxury villas which are available to rent and some are purely residential.  There are shops and a couples of Cafe’s located in Playacar but I recommend popping into Playa itself for food and cocktails.

Playacar is home to a collection of Riu hotels, i stayed in the Riu Tequila which is amazing!  There is also the Riu Yucatan which is on the beach front.  If you want the added luxury – it is your honeymoon after all then you can opt for the Riu Palace hotels – Riu Palace Mexico and Riu Palace Riviera Maya.  These hotels are stunning, 24 hour all-inclusive and full of the extra touches to make your honeymoon truly unforgettable.

The Riu Tequila located just a 5 minute walk from the beach and is the most popular of the bunch for its evening entertainment.  There is also a nightclub on the grounds which opens at around 11ish and sees residents from all the other Riu’s coming over for some late night dancing.  If you are staying in the Riu Tequila and you fancy a day at the beach you can actually also use the Riu Yucatan facilities, the 24 hour all-inclusive extends to drinks in other Riu hotels (non palace) and also lunch.

There are various trips to do in Mexico – they are pretty expensive when booking through the reps, you will find much better deals from the tour places just down the road.  I highly recommend vising Chichen Itza the ancient Mayan city.  It is a truly amazing day out!  There is also the lovely Island of Cozumel – this is great for anyone in snorkelling and scuba diving.  There are various trips to visit cenotes and ancient ruins which are all worth doing for anyone looking for an action packed honeymoon.

Nightlife is great in Playa Del Carmen, there is a Coco Bongo’s there which you literally have to visit! It really is an experience!  There are numerous clubs and bars down 5th avenue all of which are fab!  Dont forget to visit a couple of restaurants in Playa as well.  There are many to choose from, one of my personal recommendations would be La Casa del Agua and Sur steakhouse.  Although make sure to wander down a few of the streets of 5th Avenue for some amazing little Mexican restaurants.

Best time of year to visit Mexico would be from October-April.  Although cheaper deals can be had from May-September as this is the wet season in Mexico.

I hope this post has given you a little flavour of what Mexico has to offer for honeymoon hotspot or even just a holiday destination!  It really is a lovely country with brilliant people!  If you want any more information on Playa Del Carmen then feel free to drop a comment and I will do my best to help you out!

Lots of Love,
