Styling a cosy winter wedding

Hi Everyone,

This is my first How to post, and the focus is on how to style a cosy winter wedding.  I am such a fan of Autumn and Winter, I am a total Christmas nut which is probably why! lol!  I adore going to cosy country pubs and sitting by open fires whilst drinking Prosecco, I also love being able to curl up at home under a cosy blanket.  One of me other favourite things about the colder months is the amazing colours and fashion trends and the amazing smells associated with winter – cinnamon of course being one of my favourites.

In short these are a few of the reasons which led me to write this post for you all today.  There are so many winter wonderland wedding ideas or christmas themed wedding ideas out there but not quite as many ideas for a more cosier feel for those of you having winter weddings, so without further ado let’s get down to styling.

So to start of you really want to think about your colour choices for the big day.  There are various different colour combinations that work well for a winter wedding, many people choose to go darker for winter weddings which is always a great idea but you can work in lighter colours to avoid it looking to drab – even metallic’s for a more modern stamp.  Marsala which is this years Pantone colour of the year is a fantastic choice for this style of wedding!  Plum styled with a warm grey is beautiful and I also love the gorgeous darker greens mixed with purples and hints of silver.  You can work in gorgeous tartan patterns as well to further bring in the cosy winter feel as well as faux fur.

You can get some great photos with cosy winter styling by using faux fur wraps, fluffy blankets and have fun with any snow you may encounter on your special day.  If it does snow don’t let this ruin the day as trust me it only adds to the feel of the occasion and you can really create some amazing wedding photos!

Styling of the ceremony and reception is where you can really bring on the cosy!  Candles are a must, imagine a gorgeous aisle lined with candles or even with small various sized lanterns with candles inside.  This would look stunning and just feel so beautiful – don’t forget candle light brings about a romantic ambiance.

You can really appeal to your guests senses with a winter wedding because the smells associated with winter are so amazing!  If your venue allows the use of actual candles then try to find some scented one’s to decorate the reception space with, or the ceremony room.  The Christmas Garland or Cinnamon Stick from Yankee Candles Winter range are 2 of my favourite winter candle scents.

I absolutely love the idea of using thick knit blankets for chair decor for this style of wedding, it screams cosy and winter and is very different to the traditional sash option that most people go for!  I think it would actually make for a great talking point for the guests!  You could actually double these up as favours to save on costs if you buy the blankets yourself.

Your table settings can also play a great role in bringing alive your theme, I think dark wood tables looks amazing with lots of candle light and some larger floral displays.  I think low height on the centerpieces works much better for a more cosy feel.

You can add some lovely extra little touches for your cosy winter wedding in various ways.  A mulled wine & cider bar would be lovely – this is such a popular winter drink and would go down a treat with your guests.  You could talk to your venue about maybe having a little hot chocolate station for guests also!  Remember the little touches and it will all come together amazingly for you!
